May 29, 12:00 pm: Graduation Update

Dear Class of 2020, Families, and Delta Community,

At this time, Delta High School regrets that we have canceled our drive-in graduation (Plan A). This decision is based on a review of recent data from our local Health Department. Under the governor's Safe Start approach to reopening, counties must have less than 10 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents over a 14-day span to apply to move to Phase 2; unfortunately, local health data does not yet meet this criteria and drive-in ceremonies are only permitted in Phase 2+. Delta will proceed with a virtual graduation ceremony (Plan B), which will be livestreamed at the originally scheduled time, Thursday, June 4th, at 7:00 p.m. Links to the virtual graduation will be posted on both the Delta Facebook page (www.facebook.com/wearedeltahs) and the Delta website (www.thedeltahighschool.com).

We would also like to remind all seniors to please sign up for their senior conference the week following graduation. There is a link to the sign-up in Edmodo in the Senior Advisory group.  At your senior conference you will drop off your laptop and charger and any other items you have from the school, pay any outstanding fines (credit, debit, or check), pick up your diploma and information on ordering official transcripts, and pick up graduation gifts (Ramen award, cap/gown photos from this week, t-shirt from your chosen college, and more!).

Please stay tuned for updates to the tentative senior party planned for July 31st.

We are proud of the Class of 2020 and your accomplishments and look forward to seeing you continue to grow and have a positive impact wherever life takes you next.

May 19 Updates: Cap and Gown Photos, Graduation Contract, and Grad Info for Families--please read all carefully!

SENIOR CAP AND GOWN PHOTOS: TUESDAY, MAY 26th, 2:00-5:00 pm

SUGGESTED TIMES: 2-3 pm, Last Names A-G; 3-4 pm Last Names H-N; 4-5 pm Last Names O-Z (You may come at any time if your time slot does not work for you--these are suggested times to help us moderate the flow of seniors, but we know many of you have work schedules and other commitments.)

On Tuesday, May 26th, please come to Delta with your cap and gown. Members of your household are welcome to ride in your car with you but they must remain in the vehicle at all times. As a reminder, digital photos will be provided to you FREE after graduation. These photos will also be used during our graduation ceremony—whether drive-in or virtual.

Instructions:

(1) This week get your gown out of its package and hang it up in the bathroom—the steam from the shower will help get the wrinkles out.
(2) On Tuesday, May 26th, drive to Delta. (You may put your gown on when you exit your vehicle to prevent wrinkling.)
-What to bring: Cap & Gown, Cords, Delta medallion & stars (Mrs. Hoppe will have extra medallions and stars if needed)
-Be fully ready to have your photo taken. Have your hair & makeup done with your cap on. Your cap may need to be bobby-pinned in place.
-Consider what you are wearing underneath your gown. You WILL be able to see your shirt/dress at the top of the gown. Also, please wear pants and/or a dress that reaches below the bottom of the gown (it looks awkward if you don’t have clothes visible at the bottom!) 😊
-Please be ready to go quickly--we need you in your cap/gown and ready to go within 2 minutes of your arrival in the parking space to enusre we get all students through the photo session in a timely manner.
(3) The picture shows you a map of your route at the school. As you arrive, pull into the normal (south) entrance and proceed around the back of the school (the green arrows) all the way around towards the normal exit. You will then pull around to the front of the school and be directed to one of a few spaced out parking spaces (red line area on map). You may stand next to your car and put on your gown quickly. Someone will then direct you regarding the route to move into the photo area. (If you want one “fun” photo with a mask feel free to bring a mask with you.) We will have your diploma cover for you to hold during your photos.
(4) Once the photos are taken you will head back to your vehicle following social distancing guidelines and always staying 6 feet from other staff and students, at a minimum.
(5) Your car will then exit through the same entrance where you arrived (blue arrows).

All families (student and one parent) need to sign and return the following graduation contract.  Please either bring the completed contract to the Cap & Gown Photo session or send electronically to heather.hoppe@thedeltahighschool.com.

Graduation info for families to keep

May 15, 2020

Dear Delta Seniors and Families,

With the end of your high school careers a mere few weeks away I wanted to reach out and share some more information about plans for the weeks ahead.  I appreciated the opportunity to Zoom with so many of you yesterday—it was wonderful to see some faces, get some feedback, and feel for a brief time like life was back to normal. 😊 All senior information will be posted on Edmodo and also on the Delta website on a page for seniors at: https://www.thedeltahighschool.com/class-of/class-of-2020-seniors.  Please look for frequent updates!

(1) Last day(s) of classes: With graduation planned for June 4th, the last official day for work to be turned in is June 3rd. Students enrolled in classes through CWU will receive a “Delta grade” based on the Trimester 3 grading criteria.  However, CWU math classes will extend until the final exam on June 12th and CWU grades will be based on all work required for those classes through that date.  This means that students will graduate from Delta and then continue with college coursework if enrolled in a CiHS math class.

(2) Graduation: Delta’s graduation will remain the evening of Thursday, June 4th—the time will be decided soon, but it will be 7pm or later.  We are currently planning two graduation scenarios.  Yesterday the state issued guidelines regarding graduations which must be adhered to strictly.  If the state is moved to Phase 2 for re-opening, we will follow Plan A below.  If the state is still in Phase 1 we will follow Plan B.

Plan A: Delta will hold a “Drive-In” style graduation in our back parking lot.  Each student would be allowed one car per family, with specific guidelines to follow soon. If your family does not have a vehicle please contact Mr. Johnson at mike.johnson@thedeltahighschool.com.

Plan B: Delta will hold a “Virtual” graduation on June 4th at 7:00 pm.

(3) Cap/Gown Photos: On Tuesday, May 26th, from 2:00-5:00 pm we will have a professional photographer on campus to take pictures of our graduates in their caps/gowns.  These pictures will be used during either the drive-in or virtual ceremony.  Students will also be given FREE access to the digital photos—no purchase necessary this year.  During the cap/gown photos we will practice strict social distancing guidelines and students must remain in their cars until instructed to step out, put on their gowns, and have their pictures taken.  Anyone else in the car must remain in the car at all times.  Cars will drive around the back of the school and line up on the north side of the school.

(4) Senior Conferences (6/8-10): Students will be assigned a time to come into Delta for a final “conference.”  [Seniors in CWU math classes that still need use of their laptops through 6/12 may schedule a conference on Monday, 6/15.]  At the conference students will:

  • Turn in laptops/chargers and any additional books, etc. All outstanding materials must be returned and any fines paid to Delta and/or your home school district.

  • Pick up your official diploma and receive information on how to request official transcripts. (You may only pick up your diploma if all fines are cleared.)

  • Pick up your “prizes” from the postponed senior party.  All students will receive some sort of prize using funds secured for the senior party.

(5) Senior Party: On July 31st, we are tentatively planning a senior party.  No details planned yet, but please save this date.  For a senior party organized by our PoDS parent group the state must be moved to Phase 4 of the re-opening plan, as this would allow gatherings of more than 50 people.  If possible, we could also plan a time “pre-party” for parents/families to come by, get pictures, and say hellos/goodbyes to the other graduates.  We will not have a final determination on a possible senior party until mid-July, but please save this date.

Please keep checking Edmodo, Facebook, and the Delta website for updates.  We appreciate you and your flexibility during this time of uncertainty and cannot wait to celebrate your high school graduation with you!

Respectfully,

Mr. Johnson
